Thoughts on blogger Murder-3

After Pakistan and Afghanistan, I think it is logical to assume that Bangladesh is a realistic target for fundamentalists. Even though they earned the right, whenever a party or a group has been elected to run the country, every time they have used religion as a tool to make their ends meet, in terms of maintaining control over the country and of course to keep some votes in their pockets the next time they need them.

To keep the overwhelming majority of illiterate and religiously blind Muslims of Bangladesh happy and to ensure that they vote for them next time, governments in the past have introduced reforms like appending the “Bismillah” (in the name of Allah) at the top of the constitution, making Islam the national religion, and allowing Jamaat-E-Islam and war criminals to carry out their brand of politics in this country. The result? It has now become nearly impossible to reshape Bangladesh into a non-imperialistic and religiously tolerant and neutral state.

If we just look sideways at say 10 other poor and/or undeveloped countries who have been converted from a democratic nation into one influenced by imperialism and religious sentimentalism, we’ll be able to see the consequences of these sort of change for ourselves.
